===================================== J O H N D E N V E R C D ' S ===================================== September 2001 REVIEW OF "John Denver: Christmas in Concert" by Donna McKim I just wanted to share with you that I picked up "John Denver: Christmas in Concert" (copyright 2001 by BMG Entertainment) this weekend. Found it quite by accident and my husband insisted I buy it. I am so glad that I did. It is absolutely fabulous. It was recorded live on December 19th and 20th, 1996 at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. He performed with his band and the National Symphony Orchestra as well as with the World Children's Choir. I have never been to a John Denver concert so this live CD helps me to know what it would have been like to be so fortunate. When I listened to it I just had a big smile on my face as well as laughing at John's antics. I love how he talks with the kids as well as the audience. Other than some background noise that you hear the CD is wonderful. He started out with "Christmas For Cowboys" and sang traditional as well as some of his own Christmas songs. I especially loved when they were doing "Jingle Bells" because apparently the first take of the song didn't go off so well and they had to start over and when they start the song you hear John cracking up laughing. It just made you smile. He does a lot of talking on the CD which just made it so nice. After he finishes doing the Christmas portion he does "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Annie's Song", and "Calypso". He then does an encore performing "Falling Leaves (The Refugees)." My family listened to this CD before going to bed and "Falling Leaves" just was the perfect end to the CD. I was just so excited about this special find of great JD music. < < < o o o > > >
