JOHN DENVER APPOINTED TO PRESIDENTIAL COMMISSION Nov/Dec 1978 "Sing With the Earth" Newsletter On September 5, 1978, President Carter appointed John to the Presidential Commission on hunger. This is a commission which has been set up for a two year period and is to be funded by a Three-Million Dollar appropriation to the State Department. The key function of the commission is to review the effectiveness of the National and International Hunger Programs, hold hearings and encourage public participation. The Commission will seek to coordinate a unified American effort with other nations. John has made a personal commitment to improve the quality of life on the planet Earth by ending hunger and starvation in the next 19 years. We too can make a difference. We have the power to create an environment in which hunger is no longer acceptable.
