From: Kirk Walter - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Virginia Eagle Sites: 1. Mason Neck State Park/Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge - These are both located on the same peninsula about 15-20 miles south of Wash D.C. The winter population of eagles is around 30 birds. They can be seen right from a parking lot, or from some hiking trains that go through the area. 2. Caledon Natural Area - This is located off of route 218 in King George County about 10-15 miles east of Fredericksburg, VA. There is a large population of summering eagles here. I believe I heard that there is close to 200 birds during the summer. There is also a pair in the vicinity of Fredericksburg which is where I live. I've seen them flying right over town.
