Parris This 1966 John Denver album was self-produced by John. He made 250 copies of it, and it was his first solo album. He was a member of The Mitchell Trio at the time. Obviously, it is next to impossible to actually own a copy, but at the following web page they have the entire album along with commentary and bonus tracks: //jdshigherground.homestead.com/1966JohnDenverSingsAlbum.html What a treat it is to hear John's voice in the early days. John sings 4 Beatles songs on the album: "Here, There and Everywhere", "And I Love Her", "In My Life" and "Yesterday." "Here, There and Everywhere" is one of my favorites. John's voice sounds so pure and angelic on the song. "Yesterday" is another favorite - a much different version than the one he did in later years as he harmonizes with himself on the different tracks. Track Listing (with authors where I could find them): =========================================================== Here, There and Everywhere (Lennon & McCartney) Ann (Billy Edd Wheeler) Babe, I Hate To Go (Leaving On A Jet Plane - John Denver) When I Was A Cowboy Yesterday (Lennon & McCartney) Blue My Naughty What's That I Hear Now (Phil Ochs) And I Love Her (Lennon & McCartney) When Will I Be Loved? - (Phil Everly) Darcy Farrow - (Tom Campbell & Steve Gillette) Minor Swing In My Life (Lennon & McCartney) Farewell Party - (Lawton Williams) Bonus Tracks: Anything Love Can Buy Four Strong Winds This Road I have always loved John's blues songs and "Blues My Naughty" is no exception. It's great. The lyrics are sung really fast so you have to listen closely. "Minor Swing" is an instrumental song. On "Babe I Hate To Go" John sings it much faster than most versions, and, of course, the title of the song later became "Leaving On A Jet Plane." This is a great album; a special treat to enjoy after all these years. <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> ======================== John Denver Book Reviews ======================== "Shooting Stars" by Laurie Samsel Olson Reviewed by Aurelia Wight You will experience your own "fire in the sky" after reading "Shooting Stars"! My husband and I met nine years ago through internet ads, and one thing that connected us is our mutual admiration of John Denver. We decided to name our jointly purchased farm after his property in Colorado. We use sustainable practices to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables for local farmer's markets. We are along I-84 in Oregon, about 12 miles from Baker City. We welcome visits from John Denver fans. While the firmament's in deep shadow For the day has had its' fill. Are the cumulus puffy clouds of day John's pillows for rest at night? Are the sparkling stars in the Universe Chandeliers to guide John's flight? Does John's spirit traverse the Milky Way Or glimpse the Heaven's Northern Lights? Does it "fill the darkness of the Heavens" As it ascends to dizzying heights? So come gaze with me at the midnight sky And should we discover a shooting star Dare we muse it's John at an eagle's nest Letting us know he's not too far? ___________________________________________________ Copyright by Carole Romanowski - whispjesse@aol.com * * * Springtime In April by Emily M.
