I have just returned from the city of Hamilton, two hours south of here where we held our all weekend John Denver Video party - actually at a Maori tribal Marae, home to Rani, one of our members. On Friday night we were greeted in true traditional style onto the Marae. The Maori language is really quite beautiful. If any of the readers would like to hear the Maori language/song please feel free to contact me. The top favourite video for the event was "Song of the Lake" from the Lake Biwa concert in 1984. We enjoyed the 1976 "Rocky Mountain Christmas" programme through to "John Denver Remembered" from the 1995 Choices for the Future Symposium. We all agreed that John in his later years became an increasingly handsome man, though those were not the choice of words one member chose to describe him. Our next event will be on 25 August at the John Denver memorial in the Domain park. The date marks the fourth anniversary of the latter, so we will pause awhile to reflect - and then have a sumptuous afternoon tea. All are welcome to join us. Best wishes, Susan International John Denver Memorial Foundation <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> ======================= JOHN DENVER CD REVIEWS: ======================= Review of the HARBOR LIGHTS CD by Kathy Sullivan I recently purchased my copy of the "Harbor Lights CD" but for me it was even more special because I was fortunate enough to have attended that particular concert. It was a wonderful concert. It lasted about two and a half hours and still I hated to go home. That concert was recorded on a cool, damp night here in Boston but John somehow made you forget that it was a cool, rather uncomfortable night to be sitting at an outdoor concert. My husband loved "Kissing You Goodbye" mostly because John got such a kick out of singing that song. He loved the audience's reaction to it. He laughed and laughed. The synthesized airplane taking off was done because behind the Harbor Lights Ampitheatre, across the water, is Logan Airport and, of course, during the show the planes were taking off and arriving constantly. I was very excited when I found out the CD was coming out and it was well worth the wait because listening to it brings back a great night that is forever etched in my memory. * * * Review of Dan Wheetman's CD "HOUSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR by Emily M. Parris Danny Wheetman's cd came out in 2002. When you open the case and take out the cd, there is a "house blessing" under the cd and the cover shows a drawing of a Pueblo Indian Village. The cd starts out with "Goodbye Miss Liza Jane", a story about breaking up with someone done in an easy-going, relaxing style. "She's Gone" is another song about losing someone and "Muddy Waters" is about the Mississippi River. The song rolls along at an easy pace just like the river. The very nice song,"Don't We All Feel Like That" covers some of the feelings that everyone feels at one time or another; showing how all of us are really one "at heart". "A Winter's Tale" is one of my favorites. It's about the gray skies of winter. "The winter sun stabs at the cold... In a brave, but meaningless try" It describes the cold and bleak conditions in winter. The songs are heartfelt and the manner of the cd is relaxing and easy. This is a cd that you'll enjoy having in your collection. _______________________________________________________ Dan Wheetman http://www.sagearts.com/Dan_Wheetman.html ======================================= J O H N D E N V E R N O T E S ======================================= Suzanne Spisszak and Linda Riviello are starting a campaign for a JD postage stamp. On a local news station, the young people spoke to the media and described how they felt and what they said and did. One young man said that the Pope had asked them to sing, and they complied by singing something from the Beatles, Cat Stevens and JOHN DENVER! He said they sang "Country Roads."
