Traditional Tea Company has asked Michael Thau to locate a site in Southern California and he has asked Encinitas (30 miles north of San Diego) to be the site. This will be my second event with Plant-It 2000. Former Mayor Gail Hano recently signed a proclamation of appreciation to John and Plant-It 2000 which I presented to John during his book signing tour on November 2, 1994." ====================== Plant-It 2000 6547 North Academy, Suite 475 Colorado Springs, CO 80918 719-481-8390 Fax 719-481-8387 ====================== Plant-It 2000 is a unique and successful tree planting foundation dedicated to planting as many trees as possible by the year 2000. (It was founded by JOHN DENVER during the Spring of 1992.) We work with businesses, schools, organizations, municipalities, entertainers and individuals to coordinate tree planting events throughout the U.S. and abroad. Our uniqueness consists of the following: * For every dollar generously contributed - Plant-It 2000 will plant a tree. * All contributions are decided by the contributor as to where their trees get planted. Our scope is throughout the U.S. as well as abroad. * Plant-It 2000 educates school children and adults about urban and rural forestry issues in a non-biased format. We provide multiple perspectives regarding forestry issues. * We ensure that with each tree-planting project, the trees are protected by contract as much as possible from future harvest, a comprehensive maintenance plan is enacted and tree selection is appropriate to the area. * We are unrelated to any other organization and enjoy working with all kinds of groups (businesses, environmental organizations, timber companies, municipalities, civic organizations) and individuals. ========================================================== IRAQI MOUNTAIN HIGH by Jim Bearden ========================================================== I first got the idea for "Iraqi Mountain High" when I saw George Bush's reaction to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August of 1990 -- along with all the righteous indignation that Saddam Hussein (whom he had armed and, in effect, given a green light to do whatever he wanted to in the Middle East), had taken him too much at his word and actually done something serious. There seemed to be a sense of excitement, almost elation, at being able to teach this guy a lesson and really show what his military forces could do -- maybe show us all that he wasn't such a "wimp" after all. Most of the words for it came several months later, just before the ground invasion of Iraq was launched. The song itself may seem dated now, since the war is long over, and Bush is no longer President -- except for the sense that we don't seem to have learned very much from the experience, and from all the people that died. Jan '95 -- Jim Bearden =================================== IRAQI MOUNTAIN HIGH =================================== By Jim Bearden (with apologies to John Denver) V. 1: He was born in the summer of his sixty-seventh year Comin' home to a war he'd never known before. He left the "wimp" image behind him, you might say he was born again, You might say he found the key there in that war. V. 2: When he first came to the White House, well, peace was really a threat; Looked like the old Cold War mentality was finally going. But the "peace dividend" is gone now, before it ever had a chance -- The reasons keep changin' fast, and they don't last for long. CHO. 1: It's the Kennebunkport Iraqi Mountain High; I've seen it raining smart bombs in the sky. The voice of peace in our land now is softer than a lullaby ... Iraqi Mountain High ... in Kennebunkport ... V. 3: He roared off in his speedboat, in a cloud of gas and smoke; We owned all the oil, as far as he could see. And they say that he got crazy once, said we'll drill everything in sight; So we lost the earth, and we burned its memory. V. 4: Now he walks in regal solitude -- no questions, no dissents -- Seeking higher polls in every step he takes. His sight has turned outside himself, no need to understand Domestic problems, human needs, or future stakes. CHO. 2: And the Kennebunkport Iraqi Mountain High; I've seen "Nintendo wars" in the sky. Ask about civilians, and hear the casual reply ... Iraqi Mountain High ... in Kennebunkport ... V. 5: Now his life is full of glory, but his heart still knows some fear Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend: Why they'd talk of peace before he'd had his chance for victory -- More glory, more bodies on the ground. CHO. 3: And the Kennebunkport Iraqi Mountain High; We'll bring that fire right down from the sky. You know we'll all be poorer when we find how many had to die ... Iraqi Mountain High ... in Kennebunkport ... CHO. 4: It's the Kennebunkport Iraqi Mountain High; I've seen those future wars up in the sky. Sign up for the "New World Order" now, while everybody's high ... Iraqi Mountain High ... all the way to Basra ... Iraqi Mountain High ... all the way to Baghdad ... Iraqi Mountain High ... all the way to Turkey ... Iraqi Mountain High ... well, let's go on to Moscow ... Iraqi Mountain High ... we're gonna rule the whole world ... Iraqi Mountain High. ============================================================== Copyright 1991 by Jim Bearden ============================================================== The following information concerning the CHAD MITCHELL TRIO was on the Newsgroup "rec.music.folk" , Jan. 25, 1995 =========================================================== FYI, the Chad Mitchell Trio is having two reunion concerts in the Washington D.C. area this weekend (without John Denver, I think). They had one prior reunion tour and the album of that is sold by some PBS stations and is the only CMT album currently in print. The Denver-Boise-Johnson configuration of the trio never did record an album; they only did concert tours.
