Finale Event Deb ================================================== A New HOME for the Rocky Mountain High Mailinglist by Emily M. Parris ================================================== We now have a new home for the Rocky Mountain High mailinglist. It is on a program called MAILMAN and it is at Shellworld Internet Services. I have everyone subscribed who was subscribed to the list before and if you have received this newsletter then it must be working ok. This Mailinglist is much easier to operate than majordomo because it can all be done from the web. I have a screen with all the members listed in batches of 30 and I can handle administrative tasks right from the web. It was really quite easy to transfer the 6000+ members to the new service and only took me a few hours. We can thank Ken Scott of Shellworld for setting up our new mailinglist. This list will also be easier for you, the subscriber, because you will have your own password, and a screen on the web for managing your own subscription. I believe that a password was automatically generated for everyone on the list. So you can visit the Shellworld web page at http://mailman.shellworld.net/cgi-bin/listinfo/ rocky-mountain-high and work with your account. You can subscribe or unsubscribe from there and have your password emailed to you. It will be emailed to the address where you have your subscription. Then you can use the "old" password to change your password to anything you would like - something that will be easy for you to remember. You can also disable mail delivery when you are out of town and then set it to send mail again when you get back. Some of the other options on the page don't apply since this mailinglist is for the Monthly Email Newsletter and it isn't a discussion list. However, it seems to be quite easy to use. You can also write to me anytime at "emily@shellworld.net" or at "emily@sky.net" if you have any questions. < < < o o o o o o o o o o o > > > "Space Singers, Past and Present" http://www.MSNBC.com - June 17, 2002 NSync singer Lance Bass, who is hoping to go to the international space station this fall, is now due to fly to Russia on Friday several days later than originally planned to prepare for cosmonaut training, according to TV producer David Krieff. Krieff and Bass's other backers hint that a decision on the proposal to put the 23 year old boy-band member in space should come this week. MirCorp President Jeff Manber has returned to Moscow this week for further talks with the Russians. The Lance in Space story continues to bring a lot of feedback with a lot of people taking aim at Emily, the Physics Grad student who dissed Bass's aspirations. Roger from Little Rock, Arkansas whose 10 year old daughter is an NSync fan, had a particularly interesting response: "I thought it was a little silly that an NSync kid would get the chance to go." But if Lance goes up, my daughter will have an entirely different perspective. She would see space as something worth dreaming about. I really want that for her and my two younger ones, too. Singer-songwriter Phil Christie recalls that Bass is by no means the first singer to have his heart set on space flight. "You might remember that singer-songwriter John Denver campaigned aggressively to become the first citizen in space, although the spot ultimately went to Christa McAuliffe," he wrote. The John Denver Web site: http://www.johndenver.com has more information about the late singer's space dreams. Both McAuliffe and Denver died in flight - McAuliffe in the 1986 Challenger explosion, and Denver in 1997 when he crash-landed in an experimental plane. =================== On the Official John Denver Web site it says... "One of the thrills of John's involvement with NASA was getting to fly and land the Space Shuttle simulator. Because of his steadfast support, NASA awarded John its public service medal for helping 'increase awareness of space exploration by the people of the world.' John was also honored to be the Master of Ceremonies at the Goddard Dinner in Washington D.C., a yearly black tie event that honors aerospace luminaries which is attended by aerospace executives, government officials and space educators, to honor the previous years achievements in space." < < < o o o > > > "John Denver's Family, U.S. in a Tax Dispute" Los Angeles Times - June 26, 2002 by James Bates In life, the value of John Denver's work was argued by critics and fans. Now, in death, his family and the Internal Revenue Service are debating it. According to U.S. Tax Court documents, government officials said the value of Denver's $19-million estate was understated to the tune of $2.5 million. That translates to about $1.5 million in back taxes owed. The principal disagreement involves the value of Denver's record label, Windstar Records, as well as Windstar Productions, a company that handled Denver's business and management affairs before he died October 12, 1997, when an experimental plane he was piloting crashed into Monterey Bay. The IRS contends the companies were worth about twice what Denver's estate values them at, with the agency estimating Windstar Productions' worth at about $4.6 million and his record label at about $893,000. Windstar Records does not include the valuable catalog of original hits Denver recorded during the 1970s when he was briefly the industry's top-selling recording artist. Denver's hits included "Rocky Mountain High," "Thank God, I'm A Country Boy," "Sunshine on My Shoulder," "Annie's Song" and the Peter, Paul and Mary hit "Leaving On A Jet Plane." That catalog still is owned by RCA Records, where Denver recorded for 20 years before being dropped in 1987 when his sales lagged. Nonetheless, Denver remains one of RCA's best-selling catalog artists, a spokeswoman for the company said. Denver, who was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr., was frequently the target of barbs by critics who called his music too hokey. During the late 1970s, Denver also had a fledgling acting career, starring in such films as "Oh, God" and was one of the most prominent entertainers in the environmental movement. A tax appeal was filed by Denver's two adult children, Zachary and Anna Deutschendorf. The two also are disputing an IRS ruling denying nearly $2 million in deductions. No date has been set for a trial, but earlier this month court officials decided it would be held in Denver. John DeBruyn, who represents the estate, declined to comment on behalf of Denver's children. An IRS spokesman also declined to comment, citing agency policy barring comment on individual tax disputes. _______________________________________________________ John DeBruyn's Law Office is in Denver, Colorado http://www.debruyn.com ======================================= J O H N D E N V E R N O T E S ======================================= What do John Denver and Barry Manilow have in common? Ron Dante produced many of Barry Manilow's albums in the early 70's. He also produced John Denver when he was a guest on Barry's special in the 70's. In a Q&A on the web Ron was quoted saying that... "John could sing as well as anyone I have ever recorded. He sang perfectly on every take of his songs and was a delight to work with." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The John Denver Sanctuary will again be featured on HGTV's "Secret Gardens" on August 13, 2002 at 1:00pm est Home and Garden Television * http://www.hgtv.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Emily The john-denver Egroups Mailinglist (founded on September 3, 1998) wasn't working recently and repeated attempts to contact them have not produced an answer. June 18, 2002 "High School graduation was a reason to celebrate 25 years ago, especially for a now well-known local mountaineer. The Times noted, "Amidst whistling and clapping, some hooting and hollering, 98 senior and 6 juniors graduated from Aspen High School Sunday afternoon in the music tent. "Be yourself," advised Aspen's most famous resident, singer John Denver. "Learn that the best you have to offer is who you are, not who you would like to be," he said. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Lana Sue Zinkon Last night I went to see John Berry perform. He is a country music singer-songwriter. John Denver is his biggest musical influence. Pre-concert for 45 minutes they played nothing but John Denver music. During the acoustical concert John told the story about how his wife surprised him with tickets to see John Denver in Atlanta some years ago and how JD was also his very first concert experience (Mine too). He sang "Annie's Song"...sometimes I have a hard time hearing others sing JD's music, but John Berry did a wonderful job! After the concert he signed a piece of cloth that will go in the Peace Cloth. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Susan I placed an order with .
