The 230-page hardback book, set to be released September 15, examines the remarkable lives of John Denver, Jim Croce, Patsy Cline, Ricky Nelson, Buddy Holly, Otis Redding, Lynrd Skynrd and other superstars of music who soared to the top of the charts before they died in plane crashes. "We are very pleased to be publishing this timely and very important book," said Marketing Director Carrie McCullough. "So many of us are still drawn to the talents of these remarkable men and women and the bizarre circumstances surrounding their tragic ends." A licensed pilot himself, Everitt spent two years researching the book. "I'm a big music fan myself," Everitt said. "I got hooked on the concept for this book while talking to friends in Nashville, and the idea just kept growing until I met (Harbor House publisher) Randall Floyd about a year ago and he asked me to write a book." "Falling Stars" reveals many previously unpublished aspects about each of the entertainers' lives and their tragic deaths. "This is a great book," said singer/actor Jerry Reed. "Rich provides a ton of information about what went on behind the scenes in the lives of these entertainers, especially in the days leading up to their fateful crashes." Super-soul singer James Brown, who lives near Augusta, said "Rich has done a good job. I'm especially touched that he remembered my old friend, Otis Redding, in this book." Everitt's first-hand experience with aviation and his many contacts in the music and film industries gave him the insider knowledge to help dissect the last moments of the fallen stars profiled in the book. Publisher Randall Floyd expects the book will be successful, but expects more. "I think television will be very interested in this book," he said. Laughter and tears were shared as Kyle's songs painted visions of a world that can be, a place of peace, of green trees and babbling brooks, of swimming in the ponds and being part of the natural world. Many of the songs Kyle sang are soon to be released on a new CD. All of Kyle's songs were amazing, but I want to share with you a few that really touched my heart. "The Last Hawk" spoke of a Hawk looking down upon the world now and speaking with God about what she saw, and would it be with a tear or a smile. Another was of Alice Brook...of the beauty and joy that she gave to all, the strength with which she fought while slowly being destroyed by the pollution and poisons that were being emptied into her, and as she finally gave in, the loss to all. So many amazing and beautiful songs that were all written and performed by an extremely talented, charming man who has personality plus and "walks his talk." Kyle closed his performance by speaking of John Denver and the influence that John had on his music, along with Barry Manilow and Karen Carpenter. He spoke of the Peace Cloth and Windstar and he performed John Denver's "Looking For Space" with as much passion and bravado as I have ever heard. The last song was "Sierra," the beautiful song Kyle has written for John Muir and John Denver. If Kyle is anywhere near your area performing, I cannot encourage you enough to go and hear him. He has stated with all sincerity that has goal is not about getting into the top 100 music list, but only to reach more people with his music by speaking of hope and peace. Check out his website. Let us support those who carry forth the message of hope and love for our planet, our children and for peace. http://www.kylevincent.com <+> <+> <+> <+> <+> <+> <+> Pennsylvania Friends of John Denver & The North Carolina Friends of John Denver - Joint Campout - June 25-27, 2004 HAPPY CAMPERS By Laura Bollinger It rained the whole time on Friday, but the rest of the weekend was "cool n' green n' shady". There were thirteen 'happy campers.' Saturday was beautiful. Mostly sunny...there were lots of activities to enjoy - hiking, miniature golf, a game room, a swimming pool and pond. Patti, Jenny, Will and I decided to 'float' down the James River. It was quite bumpy and cold but we had a pretty good time. Saturday night was perfect for a campfire. Ed provided us with over 4 hours of John's music - What a blast! It finally got down to just me and Ed about 1:15am, then we stayed up until 2:00am. The stars were soooo beautiful. Sunday morning we enjoyed each others company as we packed up all our gear. We even managed to get together for a group photo. She died unexpectedly on February 3, 2004 at the young age of 40. You may remember seeing Chris at JD concerts, at Windstar Symposiums in Colorado of at John's book signing in Mequon, WI. She was an avid JD fan, and she would travel far to see him perform. Although she was in a wheelchair, distance never prevented her from attending a concert if she could get away. Perhaps you remember seeing Chris giving John a yellow rose whenever she saw him in concert. She was interested in computers, and she was connected through John with friends all over the world. Photography was also one of her interests and some of her photos of John are on Aspenkate's website http://www.geocities.com/aspenkate/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Darcey & Meg are once again staging their John Denver Potluck Picnic Remembrance Day Weekend in Upstate New York. It is their fifth annual event. It kicks off with dinner at Darcey's house which will feature Scalloped potato, tomato & ham casserole, cucumber dip with cheese and crackers, hard rolls, Apple cake logs and iced tea. People are welcome to camp for the weekend on her lawn or the deck. The Picnic the next day is a Potluck Dinner and Goodbye Brunch on Sunday will be held at the Golden Corral in Saratoga Springs, NY. http://www.geocities.com/darceyfarrow/JohnDenverPicnic.html - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Joel Hannel < Tahoevalley@megapathdsl.net > "Dancing With the Mountains - Celebrating the Music of John Denver" will be held September 10-12 in South Lake Tahoe. Beginning on Friday afternoon, guest artists will be performing music of their own choice. Saturday, all day, beginning after the pancake breakfast and continuing until the last embers die away around the evening campfire (when the shadows of the starlight are softer than a lullaby) our guest artists will perform their favorite John Denver songs. Sunday morning Tim Durnham will close our celebration with a "spiritual sunrise" concert. CA Windstar will be hosting an educational booth. Meals will be served throughout the day. Concerts, meals, and camping can be purchased as a complete packaged weekend.
