The dominant discount carrier - the economic engine that drives Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport - will decorate its gate with Mile High City memorabilia, hand out snow cones to passengers and serenade them with John Denver songs, courtesy of a guitar-strumming airline employee. Southwest's daily, nonstop service to Denver International Airport officially starts March 4. Trips start at $99 one way. The airline considers Denver a missing link in its system, and in January kicked off 13 daily flights out of Colorado to Chicago, Las Vegas and Phoenix. Southwest (NYSE:LUV) makes up half of fast-growing BWI's business. The airport completed a $264 million Terminal A/B expansion last year to house 26 gates for the carrier. <+> <+> <+> <+> <+> <+> <+> John Denver Lighthouse Dedication Walkway Brick by Carole Romanowski < whispjesse@aol.com > Avery Point Lighthouse ( www.averypointlight.com ) located in Groton, Connecticut has been under renovation the past few years to restore the run-down structure to its' original form as a beacon of light in America's history. The Avery Point Lighthouse Society, a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation, initiated a 800 foot dedication walkway comprised of specially engraved bricks, sold during the Avery Point Lighthouse Society's brick program that ended in May 2005. Many hundreds of individuals who have visited the walkway have requested an opportunity to purchase additional bricks. Due to the overwhelming interest, the Society is now ready to reopen the program and add to this beautiful and historic walkway. Money raised through sales of the bricks will be used to complete the lighthouse restoration. My daughter, Jennifer, who has a keen interest in lighthouses, purchased a dedication brick for her two grandfathers. This gave me the idea to print one for John Denver. If you would also care to leave a personalized, printed message on a brick as a lasting tribute to John, email the lighthouse at CAPTELAD@aol.com to receive a form to print out your message. The cost is $75 per brick and is tax deductible. Also, you will receive a certificate of participation for each brick purchased. What a fitting tribute to John who, like all lighthouses, is a "beacon of hope and of light" showing us "the way!" <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> <*> "New Friends to Find - Judy Lunn" by Judy Therrien, Monterey Many people in Aspen in October this past year had the good fortune of meeting Judy Lunn who was experiencing the joys of Aspen-In-October for the first time, and we all felt even more fortunate hearing her lovely clear voice sing John's songs! It was so special in the concert called "New Friends to Find" to hear so many of John's songs sung so beautifully by a woman, and to hear "Colors of the Wind", such a special well written extra-special tune that John would have sung, had he heard it, many of us believe. Both at the concert and on the cd, the songs in "Lover's medley" are intertwined as we listened to them with both ears and hearts. Mike Taylor said about her cd "Songs That Speak To Me": "As you can imagine, I have heard many tributes to John in various forms and I must say that yours is as good as it gets. You have a nice expressive voice that, when combined with some great sidemen and production, gave me a fresh perspective on some songs that I have heard many times." It soars straight up to Heaven, Becomes a diamond star, Which shimmers unimpeded In places near and far. It sleeps within a snowflake, Then falls as Spring-time rain. It rides upon the night wind, Sweet melody's refrain. It climbs the highest mountain, Extols reality, It echoes in forever, In peace and harmony.
