The Stage Theatre - Denver, Colorado This world-premiere theatrical event celebrates the music and ethos of our city's namesake. With sparkling new arrangements of his best-known ballads - and some surprising discoveries - a fourteen-member ensemble explores the work of this internationally acclaimed songwriter. John Denver spoke to millions around the world with such songs as "Country Roads", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "Rocky Mountain High", "Back Home Again" and "Poems, Prayers and Promises." "Almost Heaven" looks at his remarkable success through these songs and a dozen others. It will bring you back home again - and send you out singing. During a widely televised ceremony, Governor Owens signed a proclamation that endorses the efforts of our expedition to climb and have a mountain in the world's largest nature preserve in Greenland in the memory of John Denver. In attendance at the ceremony were Ron and Erma Deutschendorf, as well as Dave and Arva Deutschendorf (John's Aunt and Uncle). During the ceremony, Gov. Owens presented our expedition with two Colorado State Flags that we will carry with us to Greenland. Upon our return, we will give one of the flags to the Colorado Historical Society and the other will go to Erma Deutschendorf. After the ceremony I got to spend almost three hours with Ron, Erma, Dave, and Arva at a scrumptious luncheon. We all laughed a lot, ate way too much, and talked as if we were all old friends. Erma is simply a delight to be around. She tells such great stories about John: the kind only a Mother could tell! Ron talked of some of the wonderful plans for Windstar. It was quite a wonderful afternoon. I feel a little closer to John Denver now, having spent some time with his close family, and getting to hear such wonderful stories. The Ceremony with the Governor seemed to make the Family quite happy. Erma stills wants the State to accept "Rocky Mountain High" as the official State Song, and we all heartily agreed with her. Ron mentioned that it was about time that Colorado officially recognized John's work and accomplishments, and that he was greatful to our expedition for getting this done. All of the Family have very enthusiastically given us their and blessings for this expedition, and hope that we truly can find a "John Denver Peak." ___________________________________________________________ Expedition scheduled for July of 2001 - Northern Greenland http://www.2001TOPOFTHEWORLD.COM http://9news.com/newsroom/11901.html ======================================= J O H N D E N V E R N O T E S ======================================= Site that gives the events in Aspen for October, 2001 http://www.john-denver.org/events/aspen2001/index2.html - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Laura Bollinger I am now the President of the "North Carolina Friends of John Denver" group. Parris The Peace Cloth is a vision; A tapestry three feet wide Containing so much love And care and tenderness inside For to honor John Denver So many people came together Each one sent their work of art To be added to the treasure It stretches 750 feet long And was sewn by loving hands So many people contributed From so many different lands The peace quilt is magical As it tours around the world At the United Nations in NYC Was the place it was unfurled A dozen people volunteered To sew and help the cloth unite Working hard to create A masterpiece of such delight It symbolizes peace and that Joined together we are more That in comingling what we offer We are greater than before ___________________________________ Copyright 3/3/01 by Emily M. Parris WE CAN by Clark Mills Our Mother is crying, Her beauty is no more. Her children are taking, All she brought before. The whale in the ocean Is running away, From the hunting man's arrow Armed, ready to slay. The seals on the ice flow Their young furs so soft, Vain man must have them No matter the loss. The trees in the forest The sand on the shore, Things which grew wild, Are sadly no more. But a message of promise For all men to hear From a man who was caring, Such loss was his fear. He sang for the mountains So lofty and grand, He sang for the farmers, Tending the land. He sang for the promise Which can be made sure, By living life using, Much less, not more. Our mother is dying, But she, we can save. Just live for tomorrow, Our children's today's. __________________________________________ Copyright by Clark Mills ================================================= JOHN DENVER W A N T A D S / F O R S A L E ================================================= Kym Koedoot I'm writing a book called "On Eagles Wings."
