(New York City) She told me that she and her co-worker went to have lunch at John's bench and there was a group of Summer Camp kids around the lake. The kids were gathered around John's bench singing "Going Camping" from John's "Rocky Mountain Holiday" album. How wonderful that John's music is still touching people and a new generation of JD fans is born! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Laurie I was so happy to see that BMG highlighted "Live At the Sydney Opera House" in this month's catalog with a nice paragraph on John: "Long a favorite of Denver fans, this legendary 1977 concert captured the Rocky Mountain bard at the height of his powers and flush with his commercial success. Now remastered with extra tracks, it's a wonderful document of a performer taken from us too soon." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Judy Collins, at a recent concert, was quoted as saying: ..."This next song is by a wonderful songwriter who started out life as Deutschendorf but found his way to Colorado and changed his name to John Denver". Then she sang a medley of "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Take Me Home, Country Roads." She invited everyone to sing along on the chorus and said...."This one's for you, John". - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Jochen There is a new 2-cd slated for release on 9/28/99. It contains an outtake from the "Dreamland Express" session ("Don't Be Kind") and four songs recorded live in San Francisco in the late 1970's. The song list is very unusual including several "secret" favorites such as "Wings That Fly Us Home", "Let Us Begin", "It's About Time", "African Sunrise" and others. Nothing is known about the cover yet, but I'm sure we will know more soon. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Emily We went to the Santa-Cali-Gon Festival in Independence, MO and encountered a group of musicians playing and many people in the crowd singing "Take Me Home, Country Roads". Parris ======================================================== Ken's rich deep voice and easy going tempo turns the songs on his "Rocky Mountain Memories" album into a wonderful tribute to John Denver. My favorites are his version of "I'm Sorry" and his own "It Wasn't My Time." This tribute to John has tinkling bells and soft background vocals along with wonderful lyrics that hold true for all of us. I like what Ken said on the sleeve of the cd about John.... "His unique talent was the awesome ability to captivate the very 'feeling' of a situation as intangible or subtle as it may be and so perfectly convey those feelings and thoughts to millions of us collectively, and incredibly, to each of us individually." "Back Home Again" is another favorite along with "Starwood in Aspen." It's a wonderful album that I'm sure any John Denver fan would love to have. Below are the lyrics to his wonderful song "It Wasn't My Time." * * * http://www.kendravis.com (877) 891-8288 Ken Dravis Music / P. O. It Wasn't My Time by Ken Dravis It doesn't help to hear great words of wisdom How destiny all has a plan To hear men of the cloth reciting some verses I find these days I'm lost inside I don't understand But I know I'll get over the hurting I'm sure it's just a matter of time For dying is just part of living Still that cannot erase all the things I feel inside It wasn't my time to loose you How could I prepare for what came to be It doesn't seem fair in my mind To have the chance and never tell you What you meant to me I loved you for the music And the Colorado sky It's wasn't my time to loose you It wasn't my time I sit alone and stare out my window Searching for answers unknown Something has changed I don't feel the same About all the things that I believed And I used to know Still I'm sure I'll get past this I'm certain And I'm sure that one day I'll be fine Through your songs you'll live on forever Perhaps Love, Sweet Surrender And a Rocky Mountain High _______________________________________________ Copyright 1999 by Ken Dravis / Ken Dravis Music ======================================================= Reviews of JOHN DENVER SUMMERFEST...KANSAS CITY, MO August 21, 1999 ======================================================= From: Vickie Hi RMH Friends!! Big Thanks to Emily Parris for a wonderful evening of friends, food and great music. Her 1999 JD Summerfest provided us the perfect setting, along with a beautiful Kansas City evening, and a nice big deck with wonderful huge trees towering over us. Lots of great food too!! Thank you Sunny Waters for coming all the way from Nebraska and sharing with us your gifts of playing the guitar and singing so many of John's songs and for leading us in all the fun sing-alongs. I wish you all could have heard Sunny sing John's "Yellowstone, Coming Home". Oh my...there were tears flowing then! Besides John, no one could do that song more beautifully. He also did an original song called "I Am" which we liked so much we asked for it twice. Thanks Sunny!! And thanks Ken for the beautiful Native American flute music. Jim, how you made us laugh! What a great group of people, such a wonderful evening with new friends, a few tears, but mostly laughter and remembrance of a very special beautiful man in our lives. John has been an important part of my life for almost 30 years now. He made my world so much bigger and so much more meaningful, And still through him comes new friends and new meaning. What a gift he is! What's that, you say? You didn't know? Well, to join the list is simple: Send a message to john-denver-subscribe@egroups.com, and after replying to a confirmation message, you'll be added to an ever-growing, close and caring community of fans. But there are more benefits as well. The Egroups service, the company that sponsors the JD interactive mailing list has added two new facilities that are really fun to use. One is a chat client which will allow you to type messages in real time to other fans who are in the room. And, even better, if your PC is equipped with a microphone and speakers, you can talk voice to voice--up to 25 people from around the world talking on what amounts to one big party line. To participate in all of this great interactive communication, you must first make sure to join the interactive mailing list, just send a message to: john-denver-subscribe@egroups.com. Then, it is important that you register with the Egroups service--it's fast--just takes a few seconds, and of course, it's free! Just go to: http://www.egroups.com and click on the registration link. When you are an Egroups member, go to the following web address: http://www.egroups.com/group/john-denver and either click on the "CHAT" link to type in real time, or the "TALK" link to talk with other fans who might be in the room--or you could sing for them if you like! Questions? Problems? Write to jimkc@sky.net, and I'll do my best to help. ====================================== P O E T R Y C O R N E R ====================================== "One Of A Kind" by Kelly Robison As The Mountains stand tall and now reach for the sky, The wind plays his music like a soft lullaby. The rivers are flowing so gentle and free, I wish he were here to see this with me. His music still lives in my mind and my heart, But knowing he's gone tears me apart. So, we long for the sound only his voice could make, On a crystal clear day in the mountains by the lake. Why his hopes and his dreams were just put to a halt, We're not sure whose to blame for it's nobody's fault. Yet, we'll search for an answer to lighten our grief, And find out the reason his life was so brief. We will smile and remember all the joy that he shared When he sang us his songs to show how much he cared. His legacy and memory will stay fresh in my mind... He will never be forgotten....
