COWS by Emily M. Parris Written 11/27/88 Only very recently The cow has become the rage In artwork and household objects They have taken center stage I like cows; So happily This trend agrees with me Cows on towels, toasters and cups Are very nice to see The cow has a certain dignity As she stands and chews her cud She's immobile, calm and thoughtful But what is she thinking of? Her demeaner says "Don't bother me" "I'm busy chewing grass" "When I finish what I'm thinking I'll move and let you pass" Calm, docile and ruminative They're a quiet, noble beast Moving slowly over the land Pursuing their grassy feast Nothing hurries a cow She proceeds at a leisurely pace If she finishes then she'll go To a different grassy place It must be quite a thing To have mile after mile for lunch And friends to share your meal All gathered in a bunch The cow has an easy life Just stand and walk and chew And interrupt your thinking With an occasional "moo" Copyright 1988 by Emily M.
