SOAKING IN SUNSHINE by Emily M. Parris On a beautiful day in summer You can soak the sunshine in It seems to permeate the air And fill you up within The air is even quiet Everything is so serene The grass has covered everything With its' carpeting of green It seems to say "Come hither" "Lie down and take a rest I'll fill you up with sunshine And I'll make you feel your best" "Come feel my verdant carpeting Commune with me awhile To be within this summer day Will surely make you smile" The grass is such a pretty green When you view it close at hand Tiny, transluscent stocks of green Spread out across the land Sunshine makes everything shiny And the grass a different hue I think I'll make myself at home And the rays of the sun imbue My hair feels twice as golden As it shimmers in the light The sunshine captures every strand And makes it all so bright I think I'll take off both my shoes Lie back and soak in sun What a perfect way to spend This summer day that has begun Bees and insects fly right by me So intent upon their flight So industrious on this summer day They're a very pleasant sight They go from flower to flower They haven't got a care They're finding their fulfillment Spreading pollen everywhere The clouds float slowly by me Like sailboats in the sky They're just for decoration For it's much too nice to cry With blue, blue sky for ocean And gentle breeze for sail The clouds like being sailboats They haven't time to wail Ah, if I had a lover I'd lay and look at him We'd lay upon a blanket Until the sky grew dim I'd choose a spot secluded Where we could lie all day The clouds would float above us And the breezes come our way We'd lie and soak in sunshine We'd hear the crickets sound With my lover close beside me In this paradise we'd found Copyright 1982 by Emily M.
