Happy New Year Happy Birthday John! The glow of this morning's
sunrise was like the sunshine of your smile. The snow-capped
mountains looking down on my backyard are like your strong
shoulders. The wind is like your laugh. Tonight, I know the
stars will shine like the stars in your eyes. I miss you, my
friend. But I do see you in singing skies and dancing waters
Laughing children, growing old And in the heart and in the
spirit And in the truth when it is told. Love, Laurie

From: Jeanie Bechtold <jeanie4541@aol.com> John Denver, in the
short span of time he shared with us, enriched our lives, was
a friend to all of nature, used his talent and his mind to
engender love and peace all over the world. And thankfully, he
left us an irreplaceable treasury of music -- "Such a gift has
been given, it can never be taken away." His music will
celebrate his life forever. "Happy Birthday, John.".....Jeanie

REVIEW OF.......the CD "FOREVER JOHN"
=====================================
                   From: Carol Sullivan <CarolMed@aol.com>

Here's a review of the CD "Forever, John": I've listened to
the new CD "Forever, John" about 20 times, and still want
more. The 1st track, "On the Wings Of An Eagle", is a
large-scale work ala "I Want To Live"- just beautiful
orchestration, soaring melody. Writer, officially unknown.
Come on, it's just GOT to be John's. The second track, "River"
by Renee Armand/Marty Gwinn, could have been written by John.
Its subject matter is right up his environmental alley.
Really, it's a beautiful love song that puts the singer next
to a river. I love the lines "maybe I'll drown in your arms -
If I die like that - it won't be dying..." There is an
unusual chord change that makes this almost melancholy song
sound fascinating. Again, Milt OKun does an outstanding job
with the orchestration. This and the first track are John's
slightly "mature" voice - from '79 and '80. "River" starts
out real low in his range. John does an outstanding job with
it. He sounds so serious and sincere. "Rusty Green", of
"unknown" origin, is obviously John's composition. The quick
chord changes remind me of his early "Seasons Suite". From
1969, his voice is so young sounding; so fresh. Highlights of
the CD include a fast-paced "Dance Little Jean", written by
Jimmy Ibbotson. The lyrics talk about marriage in an
interesting and personal light; I'd like to believe that John
believed the lyrics that he sang. It basically states that
marriage is honorable if it's with your true love. From his
oldies collection (his Frank Sinatra period), John sings the
old standard, "It's A Sin To Tell A Lie". Two previously
released songs (Whose Garden Was This) are shown in their
original versions, "Mr. Bojangles", and "The Game Is Over",
the latter written by John. The popular '60's folk song, "Four
Strong Winds", seems to have been written with John in mind.
It talks of love and Alberta snow. I personally love track one
and two, "On The Wings Of An Eagle", so characteristic of
John, and "River" an "eco-plus-love" song that I adore. This
CD includes the almost obligatory song from John's old friend,
Bill Danoff, called "Nobody Can Take My Dreams From Me". I
was surprised to see no contribution from John's sometime
co-writer, Joe Henry, but the songs on this CD are high
quality and an interesting mix of styles. There's something
for every one on "Forever, John", and I highly recommend it as
a "must-have" for any John Denver fan.
Sincerely, Carol Sullivan NJ JD fan.

Review of Christopher Westfall's CD "KINDRED SPIRITS"
=====================================================
I recently received a copy of this album from its distributor,
INTERNATIONAL DISC, and believe it is a beautiful album of
some of the songs of John Denver, plus a couple of other
songs, and some commentary from the artist. John Denver songs
have traditionally been very difficult songs to sing by other
artists. Not too many have succeeded in producing a good clean
sound and getting the message out with the songs. But with
these songs on this album, Christopher Westfall has captured
the Kindred Spirit of John Denver. Christopher sounds very
much like John Denver, but is just slightly different. The
trained John Denver ear can pick up the differences. But it is
close. This is a credit to Christopher's talents as a singer.
I would thoroughly recommend this album.

From: John Thorogood <jthorogood@clara.net> Many of you were
disappointed when I was asked to close down "Free Spirit", the
UK John Denver Fan Club Website. This was largely due to a
change of President and a decision not to take on any new
members to the Club. Fortunately, I was asked by Christine
Moon if I would be prepared to adapt the site for "Friends of

readily agreed to do that. The site itself has many of the
attributes of the previous but adapted to the themes and aims

church services. What fun we had as people waved and honked
and gave up thumbs up. We had seen the car for sale at the
Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in Georgetown. This was an
evening of special dedication to John Denver. On Christmas

From: "Richard J. Shuldiner, OD" <rjs@ni.net> I had dinner
last month with Joe Frasier. What a great evening! He is
very generous with his sharing about the Chad Mitchell Trio.
He shared with me that it was at his insistence that John
Denver was hired to replace Chad. He was clear that John's
energy and enthusiasm, besides his talent, was going to propel
him into stardom. Joe tells me he threatened to leave
the group if John wasn't chosen. As for Mike Kobluk and Chad
Mitchell: Mike is in Spokane, and heads the Music Center
there. Chad Mitchell is selling Real Estate in Spokane. All
three would love to do a tour, but they have no manager nor
time to work out all the details of such a major undertaking.
Father Joe has a Parrish in Torrence, CA.

I went to the JD New Year's Eve Birthday Party in Santa
Monica,Ca. It was made possible by the Los Angeles Alliance
for Survival. There was a buffet dinner at 7pm. It was mostly
pasta, fruit, bagels, bread and beverages donated by local
restaurants. At about 8:20pm, there was a moment of silence
for JD on his birthday. There was also a birthday cake for
John. We ate that later in the evening. Donna Leonard danced
to Calypso, Cherise and S. Rachel Lovey provided their
comedian talents & The Mountain Folk Singers topped off the
night with their JD renditions along with some original music.
There were about 50 to 60 people in attendance.

Announcing Development of New World Family of John Denver
WebSite. On Monday, December 7th, 1998, Rory Young, Webmaster
for The World Family of John Denver, has announced the
developmental unveiling of the World Family's newest home.
"There has always been the need for a comprehensive place
where people could go to find out more about the causes that
John supported," says Rory Young, who started the World
Family's now infamous Gathering Page over four years ago.
"When we started on the Internet, Emily Parris's WebSite was
the ONLY site for John Denver enthusiasts. Now, in this age
where many more of John's fans are becoming web-oriented, and
the resources for John-related information are more numerous,
more than ever we need a way to bring all of these people
together. The new World Family of John Denver will be located
at http://family.john-denver.org Chat Rooms, multiple message
boards, personal E-Mail and personal FTP/WebSpace will be
available, free. For more information, or to help work on the

environmentalist John Denver with a birthday party and concert
Thursday in Santa Monica, Calif. The tribute, at the Church in

Along with my brother Roger, I am an independent producer.
One of our productions was "Mighty Day: the Chad Mitchell Trio
Reunion" with Special Guest, John Denver. The show aired
nationally on PBS in 1991. Out of it came two CD's. Now, for
the first time, we are able to release the show for the home
video market in its uncut, full length version -- a version
never before seen. It includes the original Chad Mitchell
Trio who are joined by John Denver and is the only time all
four of them have been captured on video performing together.
In the show John talks about his roots in the Trio and how
they heightened his political and social awareness and
influenced the songs he was writing. John also sings with the
Trio and contributes his own "tour de force" "Let Us Begin."
The song is accompanied by a video which includes archival
footage and Russian singer Alexander Grotsky. It really is a
piece of folk music/John Denver history that has never been
available before. We will also bring out a video in the near
future of the complete interviews with the Trio and their
conversations and reminisces with John. Doug Durrett / Durrett

From: Sandy Munro <sandy@rof.net> Subject: John's Guitar
One of John's favorite guitars is becoming available. It will
be auctioned off. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Aspen
Camp School for the Deaf. I'm Sandy Munro, owner of The Great
Divide these past 22 years. John visited often, and traded
regularly with us. This outstanding guitar was selected by
John on a concert tour in September 1975. Yamaha designers
brought three ornate handmade instruments backstage for him to
play. He chose this one for its deep and powerful, woody tone
as well as its obvious beauty. He played it often from 1975 to
the mid 1980s. It is an important piece of American musical
history, and as such will become even more meaningful with
time. The Auction will take place by email, and phone, and
will proceed from January 21 - January 29. Peace, Sandy Munro

      SILENT WORLD
             by Emily M. Parris

Silent world all turned to white
In the hours of the night
Tiny flakes in a steady stream
     Falling while all others dream

I awoke to see the sight
For I love snow that falls at night
I love the wonder of the world
With a coat of white unfurled

I love the tiny sound it makes
When the world is visited by tiny flakes
Although they are many and falling fast
Filling the air with a chilly blast

There aren't that many on the ground below
I sure love to watch it snow
There's something magical in the air
It's filled with wonder like a prayer

It is as though the world was new
Changed overnight for me and you
A world of purity, fresh and white
Innocent and virgin for the coming light

        DEAR JOHN

            by Karen Milstein <gbheron@prodigy.net>

Do you know how much I love you
Can you tell how much I care?
Can you feel it deep inside you-
Can you see it-hiding there?
It's love that grows in forests
In fields of columbine-
It lives beyond Andromeda
And knows no end in time.
It lays within a mountainside
It runs with waters clear;
It soars with eagle's sun-warmed wings
And yet-it's always near for
It lives within a memory
Of words and strings and key
And beckons-always hauntingly
To come and join with me.
It takes me with it as it runs
Across Alaskan plains,
In dark green forests Amazon
Through falling gentle rains.
It's love that you've returned to me
In muse of sight and sound,
In the way I've learned to listen
To the breeze as it dies down.
In all my waking hours
I see it everywhere,
I hear it in my children
In their laughter-living there.
I would that I could share with you
But we are worlds apart.
And winter lies-so cold and grey-
In the season of my heart.
And I so want to fly the winds
And find my space to be
But my heart is woven deep within
This time's uncertainty.
For I truly love the morning sun
And tea and cookies, too,
And riding on life's tapestry
With all there is to do.
So, please, don't throw your dreams away.
I've lost all my dreams, too.
I'm not who I want to be-
For that-I look to you.
I've seen your words in crystal skies-
I've heard them in the wind-
I took them deep inside my heart
And found I may begin
To believe that maybe, someday,
I again can find my dreams,
That life-with all its sadness now-
Is different than it seems.
So know that out there someone cares,
Someone else who's felt the truth-
And with my deepest gratitude
I give my thanks to you.
