David Gorell has ordered these albums from BMG Japan and had
the following comments:

From: David Gorell <David_Gorell@navmat.navy.gov.au>

I have just received five new JD cd's from Japan. These are
the remaining five early JD albums that have not previously
been released on cd elsewhere. Each album is packaged in the
same covers as the original LP releases and the sound is
really exceptional. The albums I received were "Rhymes &
Reasons", "Take Me To Tomorrow", "Whose Garden Was This",
"Aerie", and "Spirit." Each album has a booklet enclosed with
all the literature in both English and Japanese, including the
lyrics to all the songs, which was not included in the
original LP releases.

    =====================================================

Ann Schnitz <schnitz@ahab.rutgers.edu> pointed out that the
Internet Music and Video Shop has a great write-up about John:
.............................................................

"Music does bring people together; it allows us to experience
the same emotions. People everywhere are the same in the heart
and spirit. No matter what language we speak, what color we
are, the form of our politics or the expression of our love
and our faith, music proves: We are the same"... John Denver

"Greatest Hits:
There are few careers in the world of music that can stand as
impressively tall as John Denvers. For nearly 2 decades his
remarkable career has brought us massive record sales
throughout the world that have made him one of the top five
record sellers ever! But there are so many sides to John
Denver, the actor, the humanitarian, the songwriter, the
performer, the flyer, the fisher, the golfer, the outdoors
lover..."

"Mitchell Trio The Songwriter:
"Leaving on a Jet Plane" was Denver's first hit, in fact,
number 1 hit, which was recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary,
while Denver himself was singing lead vocals in the "Mitchell
Trio". Only 2 years later Denver himself was sailing up the
charts with such classics as "Rocky Mountain High", "Calypso"
and "Back Home Again". Since, his record sales and recording
output has reached heights of massive proportions across the
entire world. The Performer Denver has gigged the world! He
has just completed another sold out British tour (his fan base
in the UK alone is gigantic) and in the past he has played
Europe, the US, Australia, the Orient, New Zealand and even
the U.S.S.R. in 1985, the first performance by an American
artist since the suspension of cultural exchanges between the
two countries. His performance capabilities cover one man and
a guitar to appearing as a guest star with many American
symphony orchestras. Versatile is a word that is far too
understated."

"Plant-it 2000 The Humanitarian: The content of Denver's
lyrics clearly define his attitudes to the world... he wants
peace and equality for all. He is personally involved in
countless projects such as Presidential Commission on World
and Domestic Hunger", "The Hunger Project", "UNICEF",
"National Wildlife Federation", "Save the Children", "The
Cousteau Society", "Friends of the Earth"... the list goes on.
The Wildlife concert (tour, TV special, video and CD) is a
clear example of his commitment to world issues. "Plant-It
2000" is another recent Denver project urging people to plant
as many trees as possible by the year 2000."

"The Muppets The Actor: Denver has also successfully
ventured into acting. His debut movie "Oh God" was an instant
hit as were his TV roles, and he completed his second movie in
1993, "Walking Thunder". The most memorable Denver TV
appearance for me was with "The Muppets" in 1979 where he sat
round a campfire at home with the muppets."

"And His Love of the Outdoors: Fishing, backpacking, hiking,
climbing, golfing, Denver loves the outdoors which again is
often reflected in his lyrics. This remarkable man also has a
love of space and of flying and flies his own jet and has been
awarded a public service medal by NASA for increasing public
awareness across the world of space exploration."

"Jet In Summary... John Denver is a remarkable man, a role
model everyone should take a part of. His life has been one
long achievement and his attitude to the world is one we
should all listen to."

Breathtaking!!!!! That's the only word that describes
tonight's concert at Cerritos. I have been going to see John
perform for almost 20 years now, 15 concerts in all, This is
the first time I've seen John solo...no band, no orchestra.
From the opening "Boy From the Country" to the encore "A Song
For All Lovers", John was superb!! His voice rich and strong
with emotion that touched the heart of all who were there to
experience it. The Cerritos Performing Arts venue is
wonderful, a real concert hall, very beautiful and intimate.
John sang a good variety of music, he also sang an incredible
version of "The Wings That Fly Us Home", one of my favorites,
which John absolutely nailed! Peace, Steve Weller

I just went to John's concert in Cerritos Performing Art
Center last Sat, it was very good, the best I have ever seen
so far. The concert started at 8:00pm. When I saw the stage, I
noticed that there was no setup for his band but 4 guitars and
a piano for John, I was so cheerful because I've been looking
forward to seeing his "Solo Acoustic Tour" for a long time.
John opened with "Boy from the Country". His voice was so
strong and clear, even without band or orchestra playing with
him, he still can exhilarate the audience. While singing "For
Baby", "Welcome To My Morning" he asked everyone to sing
along, and suddenly, joyful feelings filled up the whole
concert hall. He closed the first part of the concert with
"Take Me Home, Country Roads". Before the song, he said, while
he's touring in England he found out people's favorite song on
the radio when they are stuck in traffic is "Take Me Home,
Country Roads". And, if you go to West Virginia, you can see
the license plates say "Almost Heaven". The first song of the
second part was "Home on the Range", followed by "Ponies",
gee, that was so beautiful, this definitely is an
unforgettable night in my life. There are several songs that I
heard for the first time in John's concert, I mean for me
personally. they are : "It Amazes me", " Eclipse", "To Catch
Another Butterfly", "Thought of You","Wings that Fly us Home",
"It's Sin To Tell a Lie". Last year, I came to the same
concert hall for his "Wildlife Concert Tour", after the show I
heard a lot of people saying "His voice is stronger than
ever!". This time I heard a lot of people saying "Excellent
show!". For me, I keep wondering why there is no record deal
for such a good singer, has the definition of good music been
changed in American?
Best wishes Yu-Suan 05/29/97

I attended John's May 25th concert in Cerritos, CA. He
performed at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts,
which is a stunning building. It's very pretty with a
Southwestern look, using many tiles and colors. It's easily
the nicest locale I've been to for an indoor concert. It is a
small theater and I was ecstatic to discover that our seats
were about 22 rows back from the stage, on the floor. We had a
terrific view of the stage and John. This is my fourth JD
concert. He performed alone, a first for me. He had a piano
and four guitars on the stage, and used the piano for just two
songs. He was wearing a very bright, multi-colored shirt,
black jeans, black cowboy boots, a beautiful turquoise belt, a
gold necklace, and had a shiny earring in his left ear. He
started out rather slowly, not playing the full version of
each song, and with long, almost awkward pauses between each
song while he switched guitars. You could have heard a pin
drop during these pauses, while the audience anxiously
anticipated his next song. He also didn't talk much between
songs until later on in the performance. He seemed a little
tired and said he had also performed Friday and Saturday
nights and was "getting too old for this," i.e. to perform on
Sunday too. But we all yelled, "No!" and clapped loudly to
cheer him on. He eventually warmed up and began to play a few
songs at a time on one guitar, so the pauses were less
noticeable. His overall performance was excellent, a real
treat to hear his beautiful voice so distinctly and to be
sitting so close! His voice always touches my heart. He sang
many fantastic songs which I have never heard him sing before.
He has amazing depths of talent! He was very funny after
singing "Let Me Be the One that You Love" saying that he bet
his Lear Jet that we'd all find ourselves singing the chorus
to our significant other some time in the next week, and that
if we didn't already have a s.o., we were sure to find one in
the next week! Kristin Kaufmann

From: Lisa Cohen <smagto@gate.net>

We just got back from a three week vacation in Colorado where
we saw some of the most beautiful country we have ever seen.
Aspen, the inspiration for so many John Denver songs was one
of our only definite preplanned stops on a very unplanned
vacation. With the aid of our rental car satellite
tracking system we got as far as the security gates of
Starwood and chatted with the friendly guard who gave us a
visitor's map and circled the location of John's house. The
house unfortunately was not visible from any location on the
road, and we had to settle for a picture of our smiling faces
below the "official" Starwood sign and of the guard shack.
The guard told us that he had seen John and his girlfriend the
week before in town at The Cantina a local Mexican restaurant
and hot spot and that he had met two of John's children
Zachary and Jesse before. In town, we stayed at The Jerome.
The management told us that John comes there for brunch often
when he's in town. Hoping to catch a glimpse of him or to have
a few words with him, we wandered around town and even
followed a man for a few blocks who looked suspiciously like
him, the same hair style, in his fifties, much of his face
covered with large, dark sunglasses. He stopped and greeted
several people on his stroll through town and seemed to be
very well known and liked. We finally got the nerve to
approach him and found that he was not John Denver, but the
owner of an Aspen security company who, upon closer
inspection, looked as if he could have done us some harm had
he seen us peering around corners at him. Luckily he was very
good natured and amused by the situation.

"Reflections of Denver"

           by Matthew Poynter

John the singer,
John the friend,
Man who knows the truth.
You are the bringer
Of love with no end
And you give me back my youth.

The glory days
Of spring, and brook,
And friends with fishing poles,
The kindly ways
Of gramma Cook
And peace within our souls.

With you, I fly
Above the green
Of tree, and grass, and weed.
I know that I
Have known serene
And it fills a primordial need.

Sing us your songs,
And dream us your dreams,
For they glow with the light of life;
And they help us along,
Like a radiant sunbeam,
This journey of toil and strife.

A Time Out Of Time

       by Vicente Solivelles

It was five past eight on a peaceful evening
A spotlight shined falling down from the sky
Took a Taylor guitar and started singin'
My tears appeared as the song was floatin' by

His voice as clear as the mountain rivers
His spirit flew over all of us
And I thought of you and all the love you give me
And I thought of you and all the love you have

Then I remembered so many years awaiting
And the ancient times when we fell apart
Then I remembered so many nights of dreaming
That day for me was a time out of time

I met some friends and now we know each other.
How wonderful it is to be notes of the same song,
How wonderful it is to say the words 'my brother',
To feel the same magic, to share the same love.

Then I remembered so many years awaiting
And the ancient times when we fell apart
Then I remembered so many nights of dreaming
That day for me was a time out of time

(Instrumental part)

And I missed you there more than you could imagine
And I missed you there evr'ry second that night
And I want you to know there was a strange kind of magic
That day for me was a time out of time

This song was inspired by the fact of attending my first John

Shining brightly on a star
Reaching the depths of our spiritual universe
And helping us to learn who we are.....that's Windstar.
