RON DEUTSCHENDORF'S THOUGHTS REGARDING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
=========================================================

Dear Friends,
On Tuesday morning, along with any human being on the
planet, I was horrified, watching the events of the day
unfold. For me, this brought up so many emotions I was
literally paralyzed. For me it was October 1997 all over again
when my brother's accident occurred. I remember knowing
instantly that not just my own life, but my family, loved
ones, relatives and close friend's lives would be forever
changed, incomprehensibly, to anyone on the outside of our
circle. I was broken hearted, not knowing how or why
something like this could happen. How someone with so much
good, could be so senselessly taken so fast, when they had so
much spirit, and life, left to give and live. Like any human
being I wished this never to be felt by any other, hoping no
one else would be put through this test, this trial, this
pain.
On Tuesday morning as I sat paralyzed watching the events
unfold, I knew again, instantly, what I know so many felt then
and are feeling now. The pain, the hurt, it was as if a hole
was somehow made in my very heart.
Now as the days pass, I keep praying that more people
will be found, that the courageous in New York working
tirelessly will uncover some people found in a yet uncovered
hole, alive. I pray for the families and friends of those
lost both in New York and DC. For them a prayer for inner
peace. For the rest of us a prayer for strength, resolve. As I
watch and read the coverage, seeing the wonderful outpouring
of both support and good will, the heartfelt sympathy for
those who have lost someone coming from all over the world, I
am gratified. I know how much it meant to my family to have
so much love sent to us by well wishers we had never even
known. I pray those who have suffered this loss can take
comfort in seeing similar sentiments coming forth from so many
people. I pray those who are suffering now will take solace,
comfort, knowing they are not alone. Not alone in their grief,
their loss, their suffering, nor are they alone in spirit.
We are all one, as has been said before by so many, as
was often said by my brother, and now especially is being
shown by so many throughout the world, "We Are All One"! As
the leaders of foreign lands, and the peoples of foreign lands
send their condolences to all of those who are now suffering
because of the horrific events of Tuesday, we again are
reminded, "We Are All One"!
Take heart, be mindful that the events of Tuesday were a
reflection of but a relative few. Not the many peoples of the
planet we call home.

In Peace,
Ron Deutschendorf

TAPESTRY IN ASPEN EVENT CANCELED
It is with a great deal of sadness that we, the committee
of Tapestry In Aspen, have decided to cancel the Tapestry In
Aspen Event on October 15, 2001. It is our feeling that the
terrorist activity and Acts of War against our country this
last week and the uncertainty of what lies ahead in the days,
weeks, and months to come make it inappropriate for us to hold
this event. We will still be publishing the Tapestry Poetry
Book, "Reaching For Higher Ground." The book will be shipped
to those who ordered it as soon as it has been received from
the printer. The checks we have received for tickets within
the last week or so will be returned to the senders. Checks
received before that time were sent to the Columbine Trust
Foundation. If you would like a refund for your ticket
purchase please send an email to: ColumbineTrust@aol.com

LIFT TRIP to the Rocky Mountain High Ski Run
This is to let everyone know, who had signed up for the lift
trip up to see John's plaque that this event is being
canceled. There were only 33 people who were interested in
making this trip, and the Ski company needed 50. The JD fans
from overseas had to be informed by this weekend in order for
them to send payment. Since there was only 1 extra person who
signed up this month, I see no hope of getting 17 more people
needed to make this trip possible. My sincere thanks to all
the JD fans who signed up. Larry Van Scoy

Subject: "It's About Time"
It is with great regret we announce the cancellation of
"It's About Time" on October 11 at the Aspen District Theater.
A million apologies to those who encouraged us over the last
week to keep the show on. We tried our best but,
unfortunately, despite your enthusiasm, insufficient sales and
the uncertainty of the times caused us to have to make our
decision. Original Event info:

VOICES OF THE SPIRIT October 15, 2001 10:00am
                      Melanie Trondson <Songbunny@aol.com>
It was with great sadness that I read about the
cancellation of the Tapestry in Aspen event. That was one of
my favorite events last year and it was especially moving. The
reading of poetry was the voices of spirit speaking out about
love, joy, peace and freedom. So I would like to hold an
event in its place and it will be called "VOICES OF THE
SPIRIT." There will be no charge for the event but there will
be a donation box with proceeds going to the families of the
victims of this tragedy in NYC. Those of you who would like
to bring a poem to share and some music, feel free to
participate. The event will be at 10:00am - Mountain Chalet
Ballroom on October 15, 2001

Walnut Valley Festival - Winfield, KS - September 13-16
From: Kathy Lill
I just wanted to share a little of what I experienced at
the Winfield acoustic music festival this past weekend! This
was the 30th anniversary of this award winning festival (in
Winfield, KS) and my 11th year to attend. I camped with my
family for four days and had a great time.
First, I felt like I shouldn't even go because I was
feeling guilty about going off and having fun in the midst of
our nation's tragedies. That mood soon changed after I arrived
at the festival and found myself with family and friends. The
music was there, the camaraderie was there...and it felt so
right.
Many of the musicians were unable to make it due to being
stuck in airports across the country. Two of those were Danny
Wheetman and his group and Tommy Emmanuel from Australia. He
was held up in London. Pete Huttlinger did make it though. He
had several performances throughout the four days. One that
brought tears to my eyes was when he sang "Boy From the
Country" and dedicated it to John. He told the audience how
he'd been a member of John's band and how special John had
treated them...but more than that, he wanted us to know that
John "was just a really nice guy"....sniff sniff!
Another JD moment was on the last day of the festival
(Sunday). I wanted to hear Bill Barwick and Roz Brown from
Denver. They perform each year and I try to catch them at
least once. Roz mentioned to Bill that we need to sing
"Grandma"...which I didn't think anything about until he said,
"this is 'Grandma's Featherbed'- for John Denver." Of course I
had no problem singing along with this one. As Roz left the
stage I was able to speak to him and told him how much I
appreciated him singing that. He told me he had attended the
Wheeler concert last year in Aspen and had been given a pass
by Jim Connor. Far Out huh?
I'm experiencing these same feelings about going to Aspen
in three weeks. Usually by now I'm really getting excited, but
for now I'm still emotionally numb like most...and the anxiety
of flying is not making it any easier. I know once I get there
I'll experience the same good feelings I had in Winfield. You
just can't have a bad time with John Denver friends and lots
of great John Denver music.
                              Peace my friends! Kathy

REVIEW OF "John Denver: Christmas in Concert"
                    by Donna McKim <mckimfarm@juno.com>

I just wanted to share with you that I picked up "John
Denver: Christmas in Concert" (copyright 2001 by BMG
Entertainment) this weekend. Found it quite by accident and my
husband insisted I buy it. I am so glad that I did. It is
absolutely fabulous. It was recorded live on December 19th and
20th, 1996 at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington D.C. He
performed with his band and the National Symphony Orchestra as
well as with the World Children's Choir. I have never been to
a John Denver concert so this live CD helps me to know what it
would have been like to be so fortunate. When I listened to it
I just had a big smile on my face as well as laughing at
John's antics. I love how he talks with the kids as well as
the audience. Other than some background noise that you hear
the CD is wonderful. He started out with "Christmas For
Cowboys" and sang traditional as well as some of his own
Christmas songs. I especially loved when they were doing
"Jingle Bells" because apparently the first take of the song
didn't go off so well and they had to start over and when they
start the song you hear John cracking up laughing. It just
made you smile. He does a lot of talking on the CD which just
made it so nice. After he finishes doing the Christmas portion
he does "Take Me Home, Country Roads", "Annie's Song", and
"Calypso". He then does an encore performing "Falling Leaves
(The Refugees)." My family listened to this CD before going
to bed and "Falling Leaves" just was the perfect end to the
CD. I was just so excited about this special find of great JD
music.

                            by Thomas <rostock@post6.tele.dk>

On the 27th of August, the Danish branch of CMC Music in joint
venture with BMG Denmark will release a 2cd disk set entitled,

CD 1: Thank God I'm A Country Boy / Take Me Home, Country
Roads / Leaving On A Jet Plane / Rocky Mountain High / Let It
Be / Back Home Again / Sunshine On My Shoulders / City of New
Orleans / Annie's Song / Friends With You / Calypso / Night
They Drove Old Dixie Down / I'd Rather Be A Cowboy / Mr.
Bojangles / Please, Daddy / I'm Sorry / Fire and Rain / Sweet
Surrender / Fly Away / Like A Sad Song

CD 2: Perhaps Love (with Placido Domingo) / Four Strong Winds
/ Late Nite Radio / Seasons of the Heart / Johnny B. Goode /
Dreamland Express / Wild Montana Skies (with EmmyLou Harris) /
Shanghai Breezes / Whispering Jesse / Autograph / Claudette /
Windsong / Some Days Are Diamonds / Looking For Space / The
Cowboy and the Lady / Love Again / My Sweet Lady / How Can I

So there you have it, basically tracks culled from the fairly
recent BMG compilations, like "Rocky Mountain High", "JD -
Reflections: Songs of Love & Life" and "JD's Greatest Country
Hits."

    The Ocean's Cry

                by Karen Connell

The sun begins its' slow decent,
closing yet another day.
Leaving behind, the brilliant colors of
red, yellow, and orange.

Below, the Ocean with its' magnificent snow-capped surf
continues to roll in.....roll out.
The infant sunset dancing lightly upon its' surface,
bringing to me a certain stillness and feelings
of desolation, of a day since passed.

As I stand close to the waters' edge
             and listen ever so silently,
I can hear the tides softly weeping...forever mourning,
for they will always carry the memories of that sorrowful day
as they continue to roll in...roll out.

Far off in the distance, a lone eagle sits atop a rock's peak,
its' powerful wings spread wide,
his single lonesome cry echoes up to the Heavens,
As he takes flight into the sunset!!!

10/14 and 10/15/2000. A lot of his friends are on it. It is
brand new. Anyone interested contact me via email.

Rick Daly <rfdjr@aol.com> Does anyone have any information on
John's father? I know he was an Air Force officer. That would
have gone back to the old Army Air Corps before the new Air
Force was established? The reason I ask is that my Mother gave
me an old picture. It shows an air crew standing outside an
old airplane. There are five of them and one is a dead ringer
for John Denver. A member of my family is also part of the air
crew. Picture circa WW2. I'd appreciate any information.

Mack Bailey has a new CD available: "When I Dream". The title
song was written for a very special lady who died of
Alzheimer's. http://www.mackbailey.com

Laura <LaurFrmn@aol.com> I have been looking for a copy of
John's song "Yellowstone." I would also like to get a copy of
his memorial service from MSNBC.
